Couple Therapy

  • Who is Couple Therapy for?
  • Couple Therapy is for anyone who may be concerned about their relationship, it can help partners to understand some of the difficulties they may be experiencing and work towards a way forward. Our service offers a safe and confidential place to talk about these issues.

Working with a Couple Therapist can also be helpful where there has been the loss of a partner through separation, divorce or death.

  • How long will it take?
  • Couple Therapy can be for a fixed number of sessions or can take place over a longer period of time. This is decided in conjunction with the couple at an initial consultation. Once you have an appointment for regular therapy it will be with the same therapist usually on a weekly basis.

  • What if my partner won’t attend?
  • Couple Therapy may be offered to an individual partner where the focus is clearly about the relationship but their partner is unable or unwilling to attend. Relationship therapy can also be helpful when an individual is working through the end of a relationship.

  • What will it cost?
  • Fees vary according to the type of therapy you wish to access. This can be discussed without obligation with the therapist.

Please note: It is usual for the full fee to be charged for missed sessions even if notice has been given.

Individual Therapy

  • What is the process if I wish to access Individual Therapy?
  • It is normal for the therapist to meet you for an initial session during which the issues for which you seek therapeutic work will be discussed and clarified. The therapist will address any questions you have and jointly, you can establish how well you might work together. The therapist will also then be able to determine whether their practice is right for your needs.

Where ongoing appointments are agreed, these are most often on a weekly basis and at an agreed time-slot.

  • How long will I need to attend?
  • The nature of personal issues will generally determine the number of sessions you wish to engage with. You can decide if you prefer to work on a short or long term basis, although the latter usually brings a more ‘in depth’ type of exploration.

  • How much does it cost?
  • A standard fee per session applies and can be discussed with the therapist without obligation.

Please note: It is usual for session cancellation fees to apply; details of this will be discussed with you.

  • Who is Mediation for?
  • Mediation is for anyone who is dealing with a dispute or is involved in a complaint process and seeks the support of an independent third party. The service offers a framework within which resolution may be achieved.

  • What is the process?
  • The Mediator meets each party individually to provide the opportunity for open discussion in a safe and confidential setting. If all the parties are in agreement, a joint meeting is held facilitated by the Mediator to explore the difficulties and work towards a solution acceptable to the participants.

  • How long will it take?
  • It is usual for a Mediation to be completed within a period of a few weeks but this is dependent on the availability of the parties involved.

  • What if one party won’t attend?
  • Mediation is a voluntary process and there are times when not all parties agree to a joint meeting. In these situations the Mediator can offer ‘shuttle’ meetings as an alternative. In ‘shuttle’ meetings the Mediator will arrange a series of individual meetings in order to assist the parties involved to reach agreement without them being present in the same room.

  • Where will the Mediation/Facilitation take place?
  • Meetings usually take place in the client’s premises although in me circumstances it is recommended that they are arranged at a neutral venue, such as the Canterbury office.

  • What is the difference between Mediation and Facilitation?
  • In Mediation the goal is to assist parties to achieve resolution of a dispute or complaint and follows an established process led model. In Facilitation the group determines the process as well as the outcome.

  • What will it cost?
  • Fees are dependent on the number of participants involved, the number of meetings required and the location. These can be discussed without commitment.

Please note: Payment is required 7 days after completion of the work
